Canadian journalist and film Giselle Portenier screened a film on the subject of female genital mutilation. The film focused on the stories of young girls in Northern Tanzania on the brink of getting cut in December for the traditional season.
The girls typically in fear of having the procedure done to them, escape to a "safe house" to avoid FGM/C and attend schools. Many of the girls have the procedure done to them in preparation for marriage and are sometimes asked to drop out of school. You can read more about the film, creator, and the girls involved below.
