The board of Directors is diverse and includes members from various developing countries with one member based in Kenya. Members of the Board have worked diligently to bring the annual fundraising events to a success.
Jacobet Edith Wambayi PhD - Executive Director
In the late 1980s, she started working on HIV & AIDS with NGOs and other groups conducting national campaigns to spread awareness and sensitize people. she organized national and community workshops on HIV & AIDS targeting community leaders, opinion leaders, administrators and the civil society. The programs influenced the Kenya Government in bringing about tangible changes in legislation on HIV & AIDS.
Edith has continued the fight against the scourge in Canada since 2001. She provides support to people living with HIV working with AIDS service organizations in Canada. As well, Edith conducts community-based research and health needs assessments among vulnerable communities in Canada. In 2007 she was appointed to the Ministerial Advisory Council on HIV & AIDS. The Council advises the Federal Minister of Health on the Federal Initiative on HIV & AIDS. Edith’s International experience includes assignment to Bangladesh with Canadian Public Health Association/Canadian International Immunization Initiative/WHO/CDC/UNICEF where she provided technical advice to the Ministry of Health and participated in the Polio eradication and other vaccine preventable diseases initiatives. Therefore, she has actively founded and advocated Uzima since its inception in 2010, incorporation in 2012, and growth to date.
Edith is a holder of a PhD and MSc in Medical Sciences, a Bachelor’s degree in Education/Science, a Diploma in Community-Based Program Planning and Management, and several certificates in the Health and related fields.
